"Review of personal scientific work in nutritional epidemiology"

Nutritional epidemiology is one of the most popular fields of investigation since the number of related published works has increased rapidly in the last 2 decades. Two of the newest epidemiological projects in Greece that evaluate the dietary habits of its participants in relation to several disease factors are MEDIS and GRECO study. The first is a health and nutrition survey that was designed to evaluate bio-clinical, lifestyle, behavioral and dietary characteristics of elderly people living on Greek islands. The second aims to record childhood obesity in Greece and evaluate lifestyle, behavioral and dietary characteristics of child participants. Both studies were retrospective and one of their major research centers is Harokopio University, Department of Science of Nutrition-Dietetics. In this presentation these studies will be discussed in the perspective of my scientific contribution. Some selected papers dealing with the relationship between nutrient consumption and health of the reference population will be further analyzed

Curriculum Vitae George D. Pounis was born in Athens on October 6, 1985. He studied Nutrition Science and Dietetics at Harokopio University of Athens, and performed his postgraduate studies in Biostatistics at National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. He has been research associate in Department of Science of Nutrition-Dietetics at Harokopio University and in Department of Food Science at Agricultural University of Athens. He is involved in epidemiological surveys with nutritional aspects and has published differnt papers in peer reviewed international journals. His work has been presented in Greek and International conferences while his work has been awarded from Hellenic Atherosclerosis and Lipidiology Society and Hellenic Dietetic Association. His scientific interests include human nutrition, nutritional epidemiology, nutritional assessment and risk modeling. Since 2008 he manages a dietetic office in Athens.
